Efficacy of Calcipotriol 0.005% Ointment for Uremic Xerosis with Pruritus in Chronic Kidney Diseases Undergoing Hemodialysis Patients: Randomized Double Blind Clinical Trial

Introduction: Uremic xerosis with pruritus (UXP) is a chronic cutaneous complication among patients undergoing maintenance renal dialysis. level directly related severity or vice versa. may lead to discomfort and negative psychological effect. The ethiopathogenesis still unknown, Most of treatments are empirical, there no effective safe therapy. Emollient has not been enough improve quality life. There some report about efficacy topical vitamin D in pruritus.
 Objective: We evaluate the calcipotriol 0.005% ointment for uremic kidney disease hemodialysis.
 Material & methode: Sixty two UXP were enrolled, randomized double blind study. Patients divided group, group placebo. In baseline, instructed apply twice daily four weeks. assesesment safety placebo after 2nd 4th weeks treatment using overall dry skin score (ODSS), visual analog scale (VAS), corneometer sebumeter. also assessed adverse effect tolerance this drugs assessment scale.
 Results: Overall (ODSS) (VAS) significantly decreased than (p <0.05). Skin hydration based on Corneometer surface lipid Sebumeter was increased Cure rate clinical improvement higher group. between groups treatment.
 Conclusion: can be used as alternative adjuctive UXP.
